ZTE Nubia Z9 classic

After the launch of ZTE Nubia Z9 Max and ZTE Nubia Z9 Mini, ZTE is out with its new smartphone, Nubia Z9. Alike other high-end smartphones, the ZTE Nubia Z9 is also powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor. 

As of now, the smartphone is limited to China and comes in three variants, namely ZTE Nubia Z9 Classic, ZTE Nubia Z9 Elite, and ZTE Nubia Z9 Exclusive. The variants are categorized based on different memory and internal storage configurations. The high-end variant also sports a fingerprint scanner.

As of now,  ZTE has not revealed any details on the smartphone's global release. People in China can book the smartphones which will go on sale from May 21st.
ZTE Nubia Z9 Classic is quoted at 3,499 CNY which is approximately Rs.36,000, ZTE Nubia Z9 Elite is quoted at 3,999 CNY which approximately Rs.41,200 and the ZTE Nubia Z9 Exclusive is quoted at 4,499 CNY approximately Rs.46,300.

The triple-SIM smartphone runs on Nubia UI 3.0 based on Android v5.0 (Lollipop) out-of-the-box and will be available in Black and Gold colour variants. It measures 147.4x68.3x8.9 mm and weighs 192 grams.

ZTE Nubia Z9 elite



All the three smartphones house a 5.2 inch full-HD (1080x1920 pixels) IPS display with 2.5D CGS (Continuous Grain Silicon) technology and 424ppi. They also feature a reflective bezel which is 0.8mm thick and the display gives the sense of stretching from end to end.

Processor & Memory

It is powered by a 64-bit octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor (four cores clocked at 2GHz Cortex-A57 and four cores clocked at 1.5GHz Cortex-A53) with Adreno 430 GPU (600MHz). Memory details are given below in the differences between the three smartphones.

Camera & Battery

The handset houses a 16MP primary camera with a Sony IMX234 Exmor RS sensor, f/2.0 aperture and 6P lenses, and an 8MP front-facing camera with a Sony IMX179 Exmor R BSI sensor, 80-degree wide viewing angle and f/2.4 aperture. It is backed by a 2900mAh battery.


It has got some common connectivity features like 4G LTE, Bluetooth 4.1, NFC, Wi-Fi, GPS, MHL 3.0, and USB OTG.

Other Features

The smartphones also features Frame Interactive Technology (FIT) gestures which are based on ways of holding the almost/closely bezel-less smartphone, like unlocking the phone with a swipe on both the sides, opening the camera when holding the smartphone upwards with both the hands and some more gestures.

Differences between three variants

The ZTE Nubia Z9 Classic packs 3GB of LPDDR4 RAM and 32GB of internal storage, the ZTE Nubia Z9 Elite packs 4GB of RAM (LPDDR3 or LPDDR4 is not yet specified) and 64GB of internal storage, and the ZTE Nubia Z9 Exclusive packs 4G of RAM and 64GB of internal storage with a TIO fingerprint sensor which is on both the power button and the volume rocker. ZTE has not yet specified whether the smartphones will feature expansion via microSD card.

Our Verdict!

The ZTE Nubia has got some beast specs! The fingerprint sensor on both the power button and the volume rocker is a big highlight of the Exclusive variant! Let's wait for it's launch in India and see how it will do in the smartphone market!
