A case that charges your smartphone over the air!

A case that charges your smartphone over the air!

Nikola Labs case

Did you ever imagine that you can charge your smartphone's battery without even reaching out to a power source or a portable charger? Ohio-based startup, Nikola Labs, is almost ready with such technology!

Nikola Labs recently announced a case for iPhone 6 at TechCrunch Disrupt that converts RF signals (such as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and LTE) into DC power to increase the phone's battery life up to 30 percent.

Nikola Labs announced that the case will be launch in a month quoted at $99 and they will start shipping the iPhone 6 cases in 4 months. They are also in a plan to bring their first product in the market within a span of 1 year.
The Nikola Labs page gives us an info saying "Nikola Technology efficiently converts RF signals like Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and LTE into DC power using its proprietary energy harvesting circuit. The result is usable energy that can provide power to mobile devices wirelessly."

iPhone 6 case sports a RF harvesting antenna and RF-DC converter to passively harvest ambient electromagnetic energy released by the phone for connecting to a network. They also claim about the protection the case delivers and also the onboard signal strength indicator.

A report TechCrunch says the RF harvesting technology was developed at Ohio State University, and Nikola Labs licensed the tech and patents of the same. If you are interested to know more about this technology you can sign up on Nikola Lab's page.

We would love to hear your opinions about the Nikola Labs case! See you in the discussion section!
