Pocket friendly 3D cam that works outdoors!

Pocket friendly 3D cam that works outdoors!

3D camera

Recently Researchers, have developed a 3D camera that is very less expensive, produces high-quality and HD images, and works in all environments - including outdoors.

The most cheap costed 3D camera till date is the Kinect, bypassed the need for joysticks and controllers by sensing the user's gestures, leading to a feeling of total immersion into the game.

But users had quickly found the Kinect's limitations. It unfortunately does not work outdoors and it produces relatively poor quality images, the study said. Oliver Cossairt, assistant professor of electrical engineering and computer science at the Northwestern University said "In order for a 3D camera to be useful, it has to be something you can use in everyday, normal environments".

He also quoted that "Outdoors is a part of that, and that is something the Kinect cannot do, but our Motion Contrast 3-D scanner can".The project is supported by the Office of Naval Research and the US Department of Energy.

And now the new camera has got many applications for devices in science and industry that depend big time on capturing the 3D shapes of scenes "in the wild," such as in robotics, bioinformatics, augmented reality, and manufacturing automation. This 3D camera can also be used for navigating purposes like installing it on a car!

We would love to hear your opinions about this 3D cam! See you in the discussion section!
